Bean Family Farm

About the Project

Bean Family Farm is a historic, family-owned farm in Westwood, Massachusetts, offering seasonal produce, livestock, handcrafted honey and beeswax products, and holiday offerings including Christmas trees and wreaths. As a 14th-generation farm with roots dating back to 1652, Bean Family Farm represents one of the last working farms in Norfolk County. The farm operates a seasonal farm stand and offers bulk meat purchases, wholesale options for local businesses, and a variety of artisan products made from their own apiaries.

As a small agricultural business facing both market competition and local land use challenges, Bean Family Farm needed a refreshed website that showcased its seasonal offerings, communicated its deep community roots, and supported an ongoing campaign to preserve farmland for future generations.

The Brief

Bean Family Farm approached us with a clear goal: to create a modern, user-friendly website that reflects the farm’s heritage while making it easy for customers to explore seasonal products and learn about their mission. Their key requirements included:

  • A clean, professional design that honors the farm’s legacy and community reputation
  • Clear organization of seasonal offerings including summer produce, fall harvest, and holiday products
  • A dedicated section for livestock sales with an easy-to-use inquiry form
  • Integration of a campaign page to raise awareness about farmland preservation efforts
  • Simple contact options for both retail customers and wholesale inquiries
  • A structure that supports rotating seasonal content and media coverage highlights

Their goal was not only to refresh the brand visually but also to drive more customer engagement, support wholesale partnerships, and build community awareness around the importance of preserving local farmland.

Our Approach

We began with an in-depth strategy session to fully understand the farm’s product offerings, seasonal cycles, target audience, and unique story. This included a review of existing content, gathering photography and video assets, and identifying what differentiates the farm from larger commercial operations. The key differentiator is the combination of generational expertise, sustainable practices, and a deep commitment to open space preservation.

Design

For the visual design, we emphasized warmth, authenticity, and seasonal flexibility. The layout was structured to help visitors quickly find current offerings based on the time of year. We incorporated imagery from the farm itself to create a genuine connection with the local community.

A flexible homepage structure was created to support rotating seasonal content, featured products, and a prominent call-to-action for the farmland preservation campaign. The design prioritized clear navigation so visitors could easily explore products, learn about the farm’s history, and get in touch.

Development & Features

  • Mobile-Responsive Design: With many customers browsing on mobile devices, we ensured the site is fully responsive and easy to navigate on all screen sizes.
  • Seasonal Pages: Dedicated pages for summer produce, fall harvest, and holiday offerings allow visitors to see what is currently available and plan their visits accordingly.
  • Livestock Inquiry Form: A prominent form on the livestock page makes it easy for customers to reserve bulk meat orders directly from the site.
  • Campaign Integration: A dedicated landing page was created to support the farmland preservation campaign, including key documents, FAQs, and media coverage.
  • Media and News Section: Embedded videos and links to press coverage help build trust and highlight the farm’s community presence.
  • SEO Optimization: Core products and local keywords were implemented site-wide to improve search visibility among customers searching for farm stands, local produce, and artisan products in the Greater Boston area.
  • Contact Integration: Clear calls-to-action across all pages guide visitors to inquire about products, place wholesale orders, or visit the farm.

The Result

The new Bean Family Farm website successfully bridges the gap between a traditional, community-rooted farm and modern customer expectations. The site is both functional and authentic, two key traits that reflect the farm’s 14-generation legacy. Key outcomes include:

  • A modern, mobile-friendly website experience that makes it easier for customers to explore seasonal offerings and place orders
  • Streamlined communication tools for both retail and wholesale inquiries
  • Stronger local SEO foundations to support visibility in a competitive market
  • A clear presentation of the farm’s unique value: local, sustainable products from a family with deep roots in the community
  • A dedicated platform to raise awareness and build support for farmland preservation efforts

The result is not just a visually updated website, but a long-term platform for driving customer engagement, supporting wholesale growth, and advocating for the future of local agriculture.
